The race for No. 1 between two singers who gained initial fame on TV was too close to call last week, but Miley Cyrus has clearly emerged the victor.
Although final numbers were not available Wednesday, Nielsen SoundScan reported that the two-CD "Hannah Montana 2: Meet Miley Cyrus" (Disney) had sold about 325,000 copies, topping Kelly Clarkson's "My December" (RCA), which was about 10,000 shy of hitting 300K in sales.
Projections after the first day of sales had the two discs selling in the range of 325,000-350,000 each. Still, the numbers for both artists are impressive.

Young starts like Lindsay Lohan, Britney Spears and for that matter Paris Hilton have damaged their careers. Finally, a team star is noticing and taking note. "Hannah Montana" star Miley Cyrus, 14, worked over-12-hour days when she came to town last week, doing meet-and-greets every day and a concert for "Good Morning America." Her rep said, "She would see people being turned away and get her bodyguards to go get them. One family was staying in a car because they had nowhere to stay, and she brought them all up to her hotel room."
