Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz spent Saturday night kissing and cuddling at the new L.A. hot spot Parc. At the club for a pal's birthday they got cozy in a semi-hidden booth, holding hands, gazing into each other's eyes and smooching in between Simpson's dance sessions with a group of girlfriends. "They definitely weren't hiding the fact that they were together," said one onlooker. "They were making out a lot and they were pretty intense."

Wentz told PEOPLE in November that although "Ashlee is the sweetest girl ever," they were "just friends." And in February he told "Maybe in a different universe, we'd be some hot couple, but not in this one."

After their PDA-filled evening in front of clubgoers they left together, hand-in-hand.

Ashlee Simpson apparently loves Jessica Simpson's new boyfriend, John Mayer. "Ashlee loves John," a Simpson pal tells. "She thinks he is great for her. More importantly, Jess is happy."

Ashlee isn't the only one in a positive mood. "John seems very smitten," says another Simpson pal.

Friends say Simpson is relishing this romance, which is low-key compared to her time with ex-husband Nick Lachey. "When she was with Nick, she was really under her family's thumb," says a friend. "This is a relationship that is all hers."

Observes another pal, Christina Milian, who was in Simpson's "Public Affair" video: "Clearly this is a relationship that's not for the cameras. It's not about celebrity. It seems like they truly have an attraction to each other, and they're both clearly very talented as well."

Ryan Phillippe and Ashlee Simpson are getting cozy. Rumor is they recently met at Les Deux before spending the night at Ashlee's home. A source told, "When Ryan and his friends arrived they were shown to the only table with any space left — where Ashlee and her friends were sitting.

"He couldn't keep his eyes off her in her very figure hugging little black dress. They seemed very into each other. Ashlee was really excited. You could tell she had a huge crush on him." After flirting for hours, onlookers claim the couple disappeared to a private area upstairs, called The Library, at around 2am. The source added: "They were up there for over an hour and came back looking dishevelled. We knew something went on."

"They took separate cars and met at her place. He spent the night! Ashlee is keeping quiet and just said how hot he was. They really hit it off. I think they will hook up again."

Ryan's representative has denied the allegations. He said: "Ryan does not know Ashlee aside from a brief introduction. He went out with his friends and left with his friends."

Ashlee Simpson is taking her breakup with Pete Wentz considerably well. Ashlee went to Les Deux in L.A. Saturday night and picked up Chad Hugo from the Neptunes, spies said. "She tried to pick up Ryan Phillipe, but he wasn't interested. So then she hung out with Chad all night and left with him."

When contacted Ashlee's rep insisted, "That is not true. She is working with Chad on her new album. There is nothing romantic going on."

Ashlee Simpson insists she is in no rush to settle down and has rubbished rumours she is dating Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz.

Asked if there was any romance between her and the rocker, Ashlee told Bliss magazine: "On no - we're just friends. "He's awesome, a very cool guy, He's a sweetheart. But I'm enjoying the single life right now and enjoying having some 'me' time."

She added: "I love guys that play guitar. Every girl does. But I also like guys who have a great sense of humour and don't take themselves too seriously."

Ashlee also laughed off Nick Carter's claims that he cheated on his girlfriend Paris Hilton with her last year. "I just find that all so funny. It gave me a good laugh."
